Coughlin/FlyingDogPhotos.com || STATE COLLEGE, PA: The sun sets on the 106,572-seat Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions, shown in this aerial photo taken November 8, 2011 in State College, PA. The stadium is currently the second largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere and the fourth largest in the world, according to Wikipedia. Joe Paterno’s tenure as coach of the Penn State football team may soon be over, perhaps within days or weeks, in the wake of a sex-abuse scandal that has implicated university officials. |

With the Penn State football program now under a microscope, I thought what better way to look at a program, visually speaking, than from above? I flew 227 nautical miles, each way from Long Island, NY and was granted access to the airspace around the 106,572-seat Beaver Stadium this past week. The stadium is currently the second largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere and the fourth largest in the world, according to Wikipedia.
With the forced ousting of legendary coach Joe Paterno, interim head coach Tom Bradley will lead the Nittany Lions on Saturday November12th against Nebraska in what was supposed to be a joyous "Senior Day" for its players and alumni. FYI: THere will be a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR)/No Flight Zone in effect one hour before kickoff, during the game, and one hour after its completion.
