| Image © 2009, Jennifer Cecil || Barbara Booth, of Zaleski, Ohio, sits with a few of the 83 dogs she rescued from a Missouri puppy mill the night before. This group, the mother dogs, have been used as breeding machines their entire lives. As soon as they birth a litter and go into their next heat cycle, they are paired with a male dog to be impregnated again. “All they know is heartache and misery," says Booth. |

An overnight ride from Hatfield, Missouri, has just ended and Booth, owner of the Painted Acres Animal Rescue Farm, has 83 new mouths to feed.
“The cages were so full of feces, urine and dog hair you couldn’t even see the dogs. It was a disaster area,” says Booth.
Housing these dogs is not going to be an easy task, but Booth has plenty of experience. Painted Acres Animal Rescue Farm, located just west of Zaleski State Forest, is home to horses, rabbits, roosters, birds, cats and other injured or unwanted creatures. “Anything that needs a home, I help,” Booth says.
