The Roosevelt High School Lady ‘Riders have struggled through a difficult season this year. On top of a win-less 0-17 record, the team has played their home games in front of minuscule attendance. The Lady ‘Riders played a typical home game in front of twenty or thirty fans, at best. Steve Duin of the Oregonian highlighted the Lady ‘Riders’ plight in his column last week, describing the team’s never give up attitude despite facing adversity throughout the season and the challenges Roosevelt faces being part of an economically challenged community in North Portland. The response to the column was an outpouring show of support by Portlanders from all over the metro area. The Roosevelt gym was nearly filled to capacity and the crowd cheered throughout the entire game as the Lady ‘Riders nearly pulled off their first win of the season after a strong fourth quarter rally fell short and the team were dealt an eighteenth straight loss when visiting Madison High School edged out a 31-29 victory.
As always...constructive feedback would be very welcome. Thanks for viewing my page.
