| D. Ross Cameron's Message: |
On March 4, 1933, newly-elected U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated into office in the midst of the worst economic downturn in American history -- The Great Depression.
At a time when one in four American men was out of work, Roosevelt's administration set out on an ambitious course to create much-needed infrastructure for a country that was still largely agrarian, provide jobs, and get money circulating again through the American economy. The Works Progress Administration, or WPA, was one of those New Deal agencies, and its projects continued through the conclusion of World War II.
Seven decades later, as the world suffers through a recession as bad as any since 1945, President Barack H. Obama says he'd like to set forth a modern day model of FDR's economic stimulus package.
Which got me to thinking about, and wanting to document, the people and the things they produced in FDR's era.
An ongoing project.
