He leaves bear claw markings behind each jump where his palms pound the thick wet sand. Kids run in and out of the surf. In the waning days of summer, there's an added level of fury to their play. |

Hey everybody,
I'm in the middle of my 3 month rotation doing Common Ground: the Virginian-Pilot's weekly photo blog. My theme, "Greetings from Ocean View," focuses on my new neighborhood which I've found to be the most beautifully quirky place ever. The column has been a great way to do a little community photojournalism. Plus, feature-hunting at the beach is definitely an added bonus.
With photo columns I've done at other papers, I've always managed to avoid writing. Not this time. But I've really had more fun with it than I expected.
More photos and the complete stories can be found here: http://hamptonroads.com/blogs/common-ground
Thanks for looking...
