Image © 2004 R. Fehringer || THURSDAY Sept. 29, 2004--Scott Air Force Base firefighters train for aircraft fires under realistic conditions as they extinguish a simulated aircraft fire. Training fires are fueled by propane burners placed throughout a full-sized steel mockup which simulates various aircrafts such as the KC-135 Stratotanker and C-9 Nightengale which are currently stationed on the base. The painting-like appearance of this photo is the result of a 400mm lens and heat. (No manipulation was used on this photo other than that which is allowed by journalistic guidelines.)
