| Image © Rob Mattson || My mother, Linda Lee Mattson, found out she had an inoperable tumor, when she picked up her cell phone and heard the condeming words from her doctor in Chicago, Illinois. "I'm so scared," she says. "I don't want to die... Why me?" she adds in a tearful voice. |

| Rob Mattson's Message: |
Having just had the joy of taking my wife and son to Ireland for Mother's Day, I couldn't help but remember my own mother who passed away from pancreatic cancer almost nine years ago. Our trip was especially meaningful, because my mother always wanted to go to Ireland. It was a bittersweet trip that helped me remember my mom, and the importance of carrying on her legacy. Sigh.
Anyway, here are a few moments from my mom's last six months. I found out that she had cancer for the fourth time while interning at the Albuquerque Journal, and was fortunate enough to have my next two internships at the Indianapolis Star and Kalamazoo Gazette. Both papers were within three hours of Chicago, so I was able to visit often, and be with her as the end was approaching.
Cheers,
Rob
