Every weekend vendors ply their wares at the Beijing Dirt Market. Once just a large dirt lot, the dirt market has grown into a large market featuring indoor and outdoor vendors selling antiques, clothing and just about anything else you can imagine. |

I am currently completing a BA in history at UCSD with an emphasis in war, revolution, and social change. In the course of completing my program I have focused on political violence, genocide, and the effects of foreign policy on human rights. Consequently, I am very interested in using the photographic medium to raise social awareness of the effects of political violence globally.
I am a non-traditional student returning to school after an extended absence. During this hiatus I developed a career in information technology which continues to serve as my primary occupation. This career has afforded my the opportunity to travel through western Europe and parts of China culminating with an extended stay in Beijing in 2004 and 2005.
I enjoy surfing, scuba diving, roller and ice hockey, and martial arts and endeavor to shoot them whenever I can. I especially enjoy the challenge of shooting action in these sports and find that it improves my shooting overall.
My primary motivation for joining this website was the vast respository of high quality information applicable to so many areas of photography. My goals include continuing my educatuion and developing my photographic skills both in the camera and in digital editing.
