These are images from a story I worked on for the New York Times about mental illness in the juvenile system. It is estimated that as many as two-thirds of the nations' juvenile offenders suffer from some form of mental illness. And with decreasing state budgets, many counties no longer have the funds to treat mentally ill children properly and as a last resort are sending these children to juvenile detention centers.
