On Friday, April 26, 2013, I covered the Mississippi Thunder Speedway 2013 Season Opener.
I covered the same event last year (and it was within the first few months of me working at the Winona Daily News), and it was interesting to see the contrasts of how I shot it this year vs. last.
I could definitely feel a difference in the way I was shooting, interacting with people, and approaching the assignment.
It helped that I had a whole summer of covering MTS since the last Season Opener, but I also grew as a shooter, and that was obvious.

My name is Joe Ahlquist. I'm a student at Winona State University in Winona, Minn. I'm currently working towards a B.A. in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Photojournalism. I'm also working as a part-time photographer at the Winona Daily News, where I cover daily assignments including many sports assignments.
