Hola friends,
I’ve just begun my graduate studies in Athens, Ohio at the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University with a concentration in photojournalism. It’s been more than a year since I’ve left the class of 2006 as an Aerospace Engineer and so much has happened since. I have just completed a summer internship with the Associated Press in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Life is good.
From South East Asia to South East Ohio, I learnt the importance of not using your eyes to feel your way around the world, and I've started using my heart to develop my personal vision. “They say close your eyes, and see the world around you.”
I’ve had great talents to learn from. I want to formally thank these photojournalists - Tengku Bahar (AFP), Bazuki Mohammad (Reuters), Glenn Guan (STAR), Andy Wong (AP) and Vincent Thian (AP). They’ve all mentored me in a special way, and helped me see things in a different light. My internship would never be the same without them.
I wish to end this update with a quote that I’ve always lived by.
“Everybody has a talent. What is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark places where it leads.” – Father, Victor Yam
Best,
Marcus Yam
