hog breakfast
While in Bali, i joined up with the Bali Harley Owners Group (HOG) for a four-day, 1300 km tour of the nearby islands of Lombok and Sumbawa. It was a very unusual way to see rural Indonesia; in a country where the per capita income is under $1000 USD, these guys were riding through the countryside on machines that cost upwards of $40,000 (thanks to a 100% import tariff). Most of them were sons of the upper class, some were wealthy lawyers and doctors, and a few were European and American expats. The Bali HOG is very active in the community, donating time and large sums of money to the victims of natural disasters and terrorism. The chapter has about 50 members, 33 of which came on the ride, and organizes a large ride about once every other month. Members of the Bali HOG have an early breakfast of fried rice outside a bike repair shop outside of Denpasar.
