Briar Hill Ave Fire Myrtle Creek firefighter, Mark Remington, takes a break after battling a house fire on Briar Hill Ave., in Riddle, Wednesday. A call to dispatch came in at 8:18 AM, said Captain Bill Norton, with the Riddle Fire Department, he also added that the first unit arrived at 8:27 AM. Fire crews from Riddle, Canyonville, Tri City, and Myrtle Creek responded to the scene at Briar Hills Ave. The fire was knocked down at 10:13 AM. The resident of the home Virgil Stearns, who lived in the home for 50 years, stated that he tried to start his furnace with kerosene, " when the whole thing just went up in flames", he said. The home built in 1880 was completely destroyed.
