Jack Howard's Message: We took our 10.5 yo Shep up to our friends' cabin in Woodford, VT. It's about a 1/4 mile from their house to a feeder trail for the AT and LT, and Bailey and her pal Owen had a great time.

I shot everything (stills and videos) with the Nikon D90 and Lensbaby Composer with a custom apertures, including a dog paw and the star. Maybe one of these shots will get licensed somewhere, sometime. But if not, no worries...just memories fun times with family and friends--and sometimes that is the most important thing.

As many of you know, I worked at a maddening pace this spring to bang out my first full-length Photo How-To book on High Dynamic Range Imaging, and now it's official--it's printed, shipping, and released today with an email blast press release from O'Reilly... I've got a copy on my desk, and more than half the first print run has been pre-sold, so we're pretty happy about that.

It has long been a dream of mine to publish a book, and it didn't really hit me that I actually did it until today when I scribbled a few words to my wife, dad, mom and dad-in-law, and aunt and uncle on the title page. Wow.

It was a heck of a lot of work, and insanely, I'm already working on some ideas for the follow-up!

Check out the press release here: http://press.oreilly.com/pub/pr/2076

The book is to the printer, and anyone who has placed a preorder should hopefully have it in their hands by Sep 15.

Until recently, I was the Editor of www.PopPhoto.com, the online portal for Popular Photography and American Photo magazines, along with a ton of cool original web content. I tested cameras, wrote reviews, played with new gear, and went to a ton of meetings.

Now I'm a freelancer again. Freelance writer, freelance photographer, and freelance editor.

Freedom is good :)
