A column of smoke from the Alpine Lake Fire obscures the sun late Wednesday afternoon. The pillar rises behind Three Mile Island on Seagull Lake. The fire started by lightning and burned a total of 1335 acres before total containment on August 20, 2005. The total cost of fighting the fire was 2.2 million dollars. There was no loss of life or damage to structures.
