Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR Lens
Quick Overview |
Super-fast, telephoto lens, optimized for edge-to-edge sharpness on both the Nikon FX (23.9 x 36mm) and DX-format image sensors
Vibration Reduction (VR II) minimizes the effects of camera shake, allowing photographers to shoot at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper images
New Tripod Detection mode reduces vibration that may occur due to shutter release when mounted on a tripod
Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables ultra high-speed autofocusing with exceptional accuracy and powerful, super-quiet operation
Exclusive Nano Crystal Coat and a meniscus protective glass element combine to further reduce ghosting and flare for even greater image clarity
Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements control chromatic aberrations while enhancing color, sharpness and contrast, even at the widest aperture settings
Rugged and reliable, lightweight construction features a magnesium die-cast barrel and professional-grade dust and moisture resistance
New A/M focus mode provides fast, secure switching between Auto and Manual focus operation

Comments | [05/26/11] The first super-telephoto I ever bought brand-new. It cost more than my first four cars put together but worth every cent.

Comments | [05/10/08] Hello all, I have been able to use this lens for three shoots on the D3, and D300. Buffalo Biils rookie mini camp, indoors @ 3200 asa. NCAA D1 women's fast pitch, 500 asa overcast and sun, then WWE @ 320 0 asa. I've shot Canon for the past six years and after seeing how fast this works you have to try it to believe it. You also have to tweak your D3 accordingly. It took me two shoots to figure it out. I shot with obstructions on purpose, then set the "Focus tracking with Lock On" to "Short" and blasted away at full AF Servo. It predicted where my subject was going, and did not wander as I was blocked by coaches in the way of a baserunner. I'm impressed by the seamless autofocus to manual override. I just began to focus with zero resistance from the AF! See you at NFL with this lens in August as I will purchase it! Best, Craig Melvin
