In the final play of the game, Prosser attempted a 2-point conversion to win the game instead of allowing it to continue into a third overtime. The pass was blocked and Lynden won, 35-34.

Danny Gawlowski's Message: Sweet Cinderella victory.

Lynden High School got to the state championship game with the odds stacked against them. They faced a returning champion that had not lost a game in two years. They were scoreless in the first half. With less than 2 and a half minutes remaining in the game, Lynden's deficit increased, 21-6. Their opponent thought the game was over. Lynden disagreed.

Lynden scored. They then kicked an onside kick and recovered it, then pushed again to the end zone. A conversion tied the game. 15 points in less than 90 seconds. Prosser finally gained the ball, but lost momentum. The game went into one overtime, then two.

Lynden was leading by one point, 35-34. As their team prayed from the bench, Prosser decided to go for the conversion to win the game. Lynden blocked the catch and won the most unpredictable game I have ever seen and the longest championship game in Washington.

It was a pleasure to be there. My sincere thanks to the players and fans as well as to the Herald staff.
