Bringing together a faculty of top international sports photographers and editors, the workshop provides an opportunity to listen to, study with, consult and network with those very individuals who are uniquely positioned to help your development and career. Included in the instructional sessions will be lectures on remote camera installations, large arena lighting, portraiture of athletes and the business of freelance sports photography.
Both digital and traditional film mediums will be used during the week and there will be special sessions designed to help photographers interested in transitions into digital cameras.
The workshop is designed for all photographers who are interested in careers in sports photography or who want to hone their skills and understanding of this specialty. Typically, those attending range from college students to early and mid-career professionals in addition to advanced amateurs who wish to partake professionally at some future point in the field.
Many experienced professionals have attended over the years since this workshop is virtually the only meeting to address career concerns in the field of sports photography.

[07/05/08] I have come to realize that you get out of workshops what you put into them. With that being said if you work at it you can get a TON out of this great week. I spent little time shooting and nearly all of my time in instructional sessions and portfolio reviews. The group of instructors that are brought into this workshop are second to none and include TOP editors and shooters from around the country. If you want to get noticed this is the place to come. I got offered an internship from one of the instructors, Mark Reis @ CO Springs Gazette, a week after the conclusion of the event. Additionally I made actual contacts with professionals from SI and AP. I would recommend this to everyone but especially to students looking to get noticed. |

[04/02/08] Attended the 07 workshop. Here are my opinions of the workshop, hope this if helpful to anyone considering it
Pros:
• A lot of great instructors.
• Good amount of equipment that can be checked out, for free
• Interesting presentations of the instructors own work
• Lots of information
• Group critiques of previous days works
• One on One critiques of your work from people in the field
• Get to photograph at the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs
Cons:
• Best like to drink, for that happens after hours and being a non alcoholic
didn't help
• Rules state that you can only sign up for 2 1on1s but some would sign up for more and nothing was done to enforce.
• You are at the mercy of the Olympic teams, for even though the times are on the calendar, doesn't mean the event or training will actually happen. Means either you have to go hunt to find something to shoot or stay in
• Though the 1on1s are nice, if the instructor doesn't care, like what happened to me, a 15 min critique that lasted 3 minutes, can be a downer
• Though there are a lot of talks about sports photography, they also go off topic to other fields
• if you are a quite person, you might get looked over
Personally got a feeling that I wasn't welcomed back, but that may be just me. But I will say you will learn a good amount, more if you are really raw to sports photography or photography in general. If anyone wants more info about my experience or any questions, willing to answer all.
hope this helps |

[12/03/07] I'm seiuosly shocked at the last 2 comments here. Wow, true class. I've attended this workshop twice, both times learned a wealth of info, not to mention the amount of networking that is priceless. These guys that teach and spend their invaluable time at the workshop speaks volumes. I'd rate the workshop an 11+. |

[07/06/04] This was a terrific experience with great instructors who spent a lot of time with us during the day and after hours. It was particularly informative with respect to lighting, including portraits and arena lighting. The portfolio review time was plentiful, and the workshop was well organized. The level of expertise among the students was varied, but the workshop was structured so that the students could get help where they needed it most. |

[10/18/02] This workshop is worth every penny, whether you're a working professional or a student seeking a giant leap in your proficiency. The availability of the top-notch instructors and equipment is fantastic, not to mention the accessibility of things to shoot. Students have the run of the Olympic traning center, which is one of many places to find sports going on in Colorado Springs. Just being in the presence of so many talented individuals gave me an incredible source of inspiration that lasts long after the workshop is over. Not only did my photography improve, I also met and made contacts with people important in the industry and have sold images to them that I created during my time there. I can't say enough good things about it...and I'll be back next year! |

[10/05/02] I loved this one.
My buddy Mark Goldman convinced me to come out to Colorado and take in this workshop last summer. Not really knowing what I was getting into, I decided: yea, I needed some inspiration, so off I went.
It was great, not only because of the incedible guests, and the networking, but each day I saw notable improvements in my work. We shot events every afternoon, and did crits every morning following.
You're trust into thinking outside the box, and seeing how it's done right. And you get to play with all kinds of equipment, explore different sports venues, gain access to key Olympic training facilities and push yourself every step of the way.
The discipline remains with you long after leaving Colorado, and I find myself pushing new ideas all the time. Some pan out - some need more work - some need further experimentation.
In less than a week, I made some breakthroughs I hadn't imagined were in me.
Downside: tuition may be a bit pricy for students, but for rookies or anyone needing a creative boost - it's an ideal short course, and if you're earning a living in sports imaging, it's worth every penny. |
