Image © D.M. Troutman 2006 || Salinas, CA - 3/12/06 – Feature race winner Salvador Duran (center), Germany’s Timo Scheider and Great Britain’s Robbie Kerr celebrate on the rostrum. Team Mexico is one of only three teams to win both a feature and sprint race at the same track. “It was a nice race, I was on slicks which I think was the right choice,” Duran said afterwards, one of only two teams to choose slicks. “We figured if there were no yellow flags we could pull out a gap and if there was a yellow flag we could go into the pits and change the tires. Unfortunately France got past me in the pits, and then it was difficult to get past people on track.” Team France’s Nicolas Lapierre was leading the feature race until mechanical problems handed victory to Duran.
