David K Purdy's Message: I would like to be considered for any freelance photography opportunities you may have. I specialize in sports photography, photojournalism, aerial, documentary photography, editorial, commercial, and portraiture. I serve clients such as Getty Images, New York Times, The Associated Press, McClatchy Tribune News Service, Golf Digest, Sipa Press Photo Agency, USA Today, Newsweek Magazine, Time Magazine, Cal Sport Media, and the Des Moines Register.

I worked at The Sun Herald, a 55,000 circulation, Knight-Ridder owned newspaper in Biloxi, MS, as a photojournalist for 22 years covering daily news, sports and feature assignments. For 18 months I served as the interim Photography Director, where I was able to use my organizational skills and hone my planning skills involving local news coverage.

I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and I have relocated back to my hometown from Gulfport, Mississippi. As I’m sure you are aware, Hurricane Katrina devastated our coastal town. Our way of life, our daily routines and even our historic landmarks are gone, literally with the wind. My wife and I felt that we could have better quality of life in Iowa.

I am available for work anywhere in Iowa and the United States and other travel if necessary. You can view my work on and also,,,,,
