The farming history of the Millican family hangs from the hand-hewen walls of Robert Millican 's barn in Walterville, where six generations of the family have been raised since 1865. LIfe for early homesteaders like Millican, whose nephew Walter became the town's namesake, was as tough as the hand-forged tools they relied upon to earn a living. "Snowed and rained all day. Went hunting. Wounded a bear. Waded Blue (river) up to my waist. Moved the cattle to Oak Flat." --Robert Millican's diary entry on April 16, 1866
