BATTLIING ANOREXIA
In her ninth-grade school portrait, Tabitha, then 14, appeared to be a normal teen-ager. She dropped out of Springfield HighSchool the following year, worked odd jobs to help support her family, then ran away to Las Vegas to marry an abusive boyfriend. She fled the marriage within a year and returned to Oregon, but her weight had begun to drop noticeably. Her handwritten note on the back of her 1993 school picture reads: “Tabitha, 9th grade. 103 pounds.”
