Medicaid vs. Mentally Ill
Ruth Ann Hock, who has recently been an outspoken representative of the National Organization for Mental Illness, NOMI, wipes her eyes after tearing up while talking about the future of Medicaid benefits. She receives $685 per month from social security to pay for rent and the rest of her expenses. The May 1 cut in Medicaid benefits will hit recipients hard, especially those with large monthly prescription bills, like Hock, whose out-of pocket costs will be an additional $213 per month. "I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me, I just want people to understand that those of us who are trying to make it just can't," Hock said about the upcoming cut in Medicaid benefits.
