Patient Care Technician Mary Nelson holds a Ziploc bag containing Jacob Wawrzaszek's bone marrow. The transplant procedure itself is a simple procedure, similar to a blood transfusion, and does not involve any cutting or stitching. The bone marrow was harvested from Jacob by inserting large needles into his hips. After a few hours of lab tests in the basement of the hospital, the marrow checked out and Nelson waited for an elevator to the eighth floor where Owen was staying.
